I'm aiming for passive income
Where it began...
I was 16 years old when I got my first taste of working for money.
I got invited to join a network marketing company. In the Philippines, MLMs are a big thing. Even today, they are a big part of the economy. You’ll see billboards, TV advertisements, sold-out arenas and celebrities promoting different companies and products everywhere.
While network marketing never changed my life financially, it led me down the path of entrepreneurship and the idea of creating passive income streams.
Back then, we were struggling financially. My mom raised my sister and I in a big city by herself. So, it became the biggest motivation to help my mother financially and get her the life she deserves.
Opportunity strikes!
When the opportunity presented itself for me to go overseas, I took the shot. It was sad for me to leave my mom and sis (she was still 11 years old back then), but my mom encouraged me further to go and strive for my goals.
My dad and his family were already living there, so why not just fly, learn and improve myself? I’d have a place to sleep, food to eat and connections to use. Things were set up for me already.
Opportunities in the Philippines were not abundant from my point of view. It was only a matter of time before it felt like the city I was in, or the country I was in, was too small.
Making use of time...
I went to school and graduated at the University of California San Diego. I worked on-campus and looked for different online income ideas to support my education.
While I was in school, I started dabbling in the stock market where I first learned about dividend investing. This was the first passive income idea I’ve held onto and I’ve been a believer of it ever since.
Also, before graduating, I started my own social media management agency. It was born out of a talk with my former boss. Before leaving for San Diego, I had mentioned to her that I’ve been growing one of my Instagram pages. She asked me if I can grow her restaurant’s page and the rest is history.
